God's Comforting promises through divorce~

In November and December 2020 my husband left and divorced me. I asked him to forgive me for what God had revealed to me, that I had been acting unlike my normal self during my change of life and he said "what am I just supposed to forgive you?" Well, yes that is what Christians do. But he said he "would never let anyone hurt him again". It was the most numbing pain I have ever felt, no conversation rationalizing or talking it out, just as if his hands were held in front of me and him saying I will not forgive you, its too late.” I was devastated. He threatened me to sign papers quickly, took all of our savings and my half of his truck.

As a follower of Jesus all I knew to do was cling to Jesus and His Word. Godly women came to my rescue with prayer, love and devotional books giving me scriptures and God’s promises to focus on instead of the piercing pain. I thank God for my faith during that time. My faith and my church family and God’s Word = Jesus (John 1:14) became my sword, my strength, my hope and my life.

I also began EMDR counseling (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) as my counselor helped me to reprogram the negative harsh statements and replace them with the truth of who I am and what God says about me. Instead of focusing on the problem or the hurt I begin appreciating the gift-Christ’s strength moving in on my weakness. I had to let Christ take over. The weakness I felt allowed me to acknowledge my need for Christ so He was exalted and I became strong! God’s promises are always true, meditate on these as you are experiencing the pain of divorce.

John 14:1- [Jesus said] “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.

Psalm 147:3- He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

2 Corinthians 4:17- For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.

1 Thessalonians 4:13 -“Do not grieve as those who have no hope.

Isaiah 41:9b-10- I have chosen you and have not rejected you. 10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 43:2-When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

Luke 6:63-Rejoice and leap for joy for great is my reward in Heaven

1 Corinthians 7:15- If an unbeliever leaves let him go but God has called us to make peace with each other

2 Corinthians 12:9- but He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you [My lovingkindness and My mercy are more than enough—always available—regardless of the situation]; for [My] power is being perfected [and is completed and shows itself most effectively] in [your] weakness.” Therefore, I will all the more gladly boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ [may completely enfold me and] may dwell in me.

Psalm 40:1-3-I waited patiently and expectantly for the LORD; and He inclined to me and heard my cry. 2 He brought me up out of a horrible pit [of tumult and of destruction], out of the miry clay, And He set my feet upon a rock, steadying my footsteps and establishing my path. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear [with great reverence] And will trust confidently in the LORD.

Proverbs 3:5-6-Trust in the Lord and do not lean on or rely on my own insight or understanding. In all my ways recognize and acknowledge Him and He will make my path straight.

John 4:4- Greater is He who is in my than he that is in the world. God is in me!

2 Corinthians 6:16- What agreement [can there be between] a temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in and with and among them and will walk in and with and among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

Isaiah 43:18-19- “Do not remember the former things Or ponder the things of the past. 19 “Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert.

Philippians 3:13- 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have made it my own yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead.

Psalm 112:7-They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.

Isaiah 26:3- “You will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You—in both inclination and character],
Because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation].

Psalm 30:45- Sing to the LORD, O you His godly ones, And give thanks at the mention of His holy name. 5 For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may endure for a night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning.

Hebrews 10:30-31- For we know Him who said, “VENGEANCE IS MINE [retribution and the deliverance of justice rest with Me], I WILL REPAY [the wrongdoer].” And again, “THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE.” 31 It is a fearful and terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God [incurring His judgment and wrath].

Jeremiah 29:11- For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the LORD, plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Psalms 42:5- Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become restless and disturbed within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall again praise Him For the help of His presence.

Malachi 2:16- “For I hate divorce,” says the LORD, the God of Israel, “and him who covers his garment with wrong and violence,” says the LORD of hosts. “Therefore keep watch on your spirit, so that you do not deal treacherously [with your wife].”

Matthew 19:8-9- He said to them, “Because your hearts were hard and stubborn Moses permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way. 9 I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”

1 Peter 1:6-8- In this you rejoice greatly, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, 7 so that the genuineness of your faith, which is much more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested and purified by fire, may be found to result in [your] praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 8 Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and though you do not even see Him now, you believe and trust in Him and you greatly rejoice and delight with inexpressible and glorious joy.

Jesus is our husband and is our provider and protection, He will never let us down. Hold on to His promises and His Word, he will never leave us or forsake us! I am praying for you! Kate
