God's promises for Step 1~ Admit we need sin recovery

My ex-husband and I facilitated a 12 Steps for Christians-Road to Recovery group each Wednesday evening, 6pm at Christ Church Vero Beach, FL. We both consciously choose to walk in health and wholeness daily with Jesus' help. We are also recovering from choosing various unhealthy habits and addictions instead of choosing God's will for our lives. God has blessed us as we each made a decision to turn from our sin and follow Jesus for over 10 years and we have been able to take the gospel message of health, wholeness and fullness of life to others!

The Bible says we all struggle with various things that lead us away from God and until Jesus' return we will continue a life of admitting, repenting, trusting in Jesus' finished work at the cross and submitting to His ways and instructions for our lives. We need to believe His amazing love towards us and learn our true identity in Christ, what God truly thinks about us and how to walk in our authority over sin, sickness and disease. So every Christian is in a lifetime of sin recovery! Come join us as we walk through life together!

We are starting again with Step 1 this week where we admit we are powerless over sin in our life and that our life has become, or is soon becoming unmanageable. Romans 7:18- I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.

Praise Jesus! God has the answers! We find them in His promises in the Truth of the Bible, through a personal relationship with God through prayer-talking, asking and listening- and accepting help from other successful people.

In case you are not sure you need God's help, here are some verses about our wickedness and the truth about our destroyer, deceiver and the god of this world, satan. Forward these to someone you know who may need help from the Lord . Send us a message about who we may lift up in prayer, we will agree with you that God can heal us, seal us as His children and make us whole again!

Bible truths about Step 1- What does God's Word say about who I am without Jesus~
I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” Romans 7:18 / Step 1- We admitted we were powerless over our addiction/sin - that our lives had become unmanageable

Psalm 38:3-10- Because of your anger, my whole body is sick; my health is broken because of my sins. 4 My guilt overwhelms me— it is a burden too heavy to bear. 5 My wounds fester and stink because of my foolish sins. 6 I am bent over and racked with pain. All day long I walk around filled with grief. 7 A raging fever burns within me, and my health is broken. 8 I am exhausted and completely crushed. My groans come from an anguished heart. 9 You know what I long for, Lord; you hear my every sigh. 10 My heart beats wildly, my strength fails, and I am going blind.

1 John 1:8- If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth.

Psalm 129:23-24- Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

Romans 3:23- for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

Psalm 51:10-Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Romans 1:28- 28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God or consider Him worth knowing as their Creator, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do things which are improper and repulsive

Isaiah 53:6- We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Proverbs 26:11-12 - Like a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool who repeats his folly. 12 Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

Romans 6:16-16- Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.

Galatians 5:19-21- 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Proverbs 23:33-35- In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper. 33 Your eyes will see strange sights, and your mind will imagine confusing things. 34 You will be like one sleeping on the high seas, lying on top of the rigging. 35 “They hit me,” you will say, “but I’m not hurt! They beat me, but I don’t feel it! When will I wake up so I can find another drink?”

Ephesians 5:18- 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit

Romans 7:18-23 - 8 And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature I want to do what is right, but I can’t. 19 I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. 20 But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. 21 I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. 22 I love God’s law with all my heart.23 But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me.

Romans 5:12-Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned.

1 John 2:16-For everything in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--comes not from the Father but from the world.

Ephesians 6:11-13-11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

2 Corinthians 4:4- Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.

Matthew 4:3-The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

James 1:13-14- 13- When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when tempted by his own evil desires he is lured away and enticed.

Revelations 12:9-10- 9 This great dragon—the ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, the one deceiving the whole world—was thrown down to the earth with all his angels.

Job 2:6- 6 The LORD said to Satan, “Very well, then, he is in your hands; but you must spare his life.”

Ephesians 2:2- 2 You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.

1 John 5:18-19-8 We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them. 19 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.

1 Peter 5:8- 8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Matthew 12:45- 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”

John 12:31- 31 The time for judging this world has come, when Satan, the ruler of this world, will be cast out.

1 Corinthians 15:57- But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
