Happy New Year! Hello 2022, the best is yet to come! Just sitting here with my kitties, Adam and Noah and reading my fasting book by Jentezen Franklin~

Each new years I try to give the first of the year to the Lord by beginning with a new years fast. Jentezen Franklin at Free Chapel church says we should always give the Lord the first of everything like the tithe-first 10% of our income, of our week-Sunday go meet with other believers and worship Him, and of the new year to show humility and trust and love to Him. He states that his church family have noticed great favor and gains throughout the year from God!

Fasting is turning away from food or from a great temptation for some time and feed on God and HIs Word instead. The greats of the Bible fasted-Moses, David, Nehemiah, Elijah, Paul, Peter and Jesus Himself. Daniel fasted 21 days, now called the Daniel fast.

The Daniel Fast is based upon the prophet Daniel’s dietary and spiritual experiences as recorded in the Book of Daniel in the Bible. It’s a type of partial fast that focuses very heavily on vegetables and other healthy whole foods but leaves out any animal sources of protein. The Daniel Fast is specifically referenced in the Bible in two sections of the Book of Daniel:

Daniel 1:12, which states, “Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables [pulses] to eat and water to drink.”
Daniel 10: 2-3, which says, “In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.”
Some people fast phones, TV or entertainment but I focus on fasting from sugars and meats and instead eat fruits and veggies the 1st week, water only until I can't take it the 2nd week, and then fruits and veggies the remaining time. I have been doing this for many years now and I have come to have changed my diet for the best I believe, each year! I feel more clear and my skin looks great, and I draw closer to the Lord each time!

We are spirits, with a soul in a body but when fasting I feed my spirit more than my flesh by praying, talking to God during normal eating times and reading the Word and helpful books. It is a great way to start the year!

I often roast my fav veggies in a 375 oven for 1 hour, then blend them with my turkey broth I collected at Christmas time. It makes a great soup! I also make my fav acai bowls and healthy ice cream with my super Vitamix blender and frozen fruits with a tiny bit of water. The power of the Vitamix and the provided tamper to mash down the fruits allows the more firm texture than a regular smoothie. But those are great also!

SO join me in a new years fast to honor, worship and hear more clearly from God this first month. Lets turn our hearts to Him! Send me any questions or comments I would love to hear what you are making with your fruits and veggies! Blessings! God will help you!

Acts 13:2- While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

Matthew 4:1- Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

Exodus 34:28- Moses was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant—the Ten Commandments.

1 Corinthians 7:5- Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Blessings,
Kate
